YOUTH PRESS

The Youth Press of Wisconsin Project is multifaceted and ongoing. The Youth Press involves more than 250 students from 13 schools writing a newsletter with statewide circulation and producing both radio and television programs for local communities.

Partnerships

MIRA enabled the Youth Press to integrate with larger youth media networks. This increased the group's access to new forms of media technology and training. All work now originates from the Center for Community Outreach/Marshfield Clinic, which recently hired Mary Rosston, the former MIRA Youth Press Director.

Youth Press received lots of financial support and formed several collaborations with the local community, as well as state, national and international agencies.

Leadership

All project decisions were made in a flexible and team atmosphere allowing people to take ownership of their own particular projects. Team members were allowed to have equal say in what project areas should receive attention. The cluster did not stop production if one idea did not work. Their flexible leadership style enabled them to go with the flow of activity.

The original MIRA team no longer meets, but some of the original team members are still active as Youth Press takes on new projects in video, radio and print.
