WESST CORP

Wesst Corp, the Women's Economic Self-Sufficiency team, is a non-profit organization headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with five regional offices in Farmington, Las Cruces, Roswell, Santa Fe and Taos.

Wesst Corp has been helping women and minority-owned businesses begin and survive since 1988. Their services include consultants, marketing plans, and help with finding and applying for loans. The MIRA grant added a technological component to Wesst Corp's services.

With the development of their web site, www.wesstartisans.com, Wesst Corp invited ten local artists to advertise and sell their crafts on the Internet. MIRA money was used to develop this web site and to keep these ten artists on the Internet for one year.

After the initial year, the 10 artists were invited to stay on the e-commerce sight for a nominal fee. Five chose to stay on-line.

Partnerships

Clare Zurwaski, Wesst Corp Director said that finding grants for e-commerce activities was more difficult than first thought. With the MIRA project complete, the team disbanded.

Wesst Corp received a grant from the New Mexico State Economic Development agency for e-commerce and has moved on to its Market Link program, funded by several organizations including the MS. Foundation.
