VISIT IOWA
Promoting tourism in western Iowa was enhanced by the activities of the Western Iowa Tourist Board and Golden Hills Resources and Conservation, Inc. This CSO ordered some desktop machines, appropriate software, and a digital camera and provided six days of training to staff members. A college intern researched potential new members in 37 counties and included them in a database. Over 150 people were trained in workshops on the basics of email and the Internet. The organization was not satisfied with this standard technology project, and they sought to install low powered radio transmitters to broadcast tourist information to travellers on the Interstate, but the limited coverage and high expense caused them to reinvest the money in a voice message repeater system for the Interstate Information kiosks where tourists could get audio information easily.
